Coming up August 8th - 17th in San Antonio is Kidcation week, sponsored by San Antonio Convention & Vistors Bureau with nearly 100 events and promotions at museums, restaurants and more in the area.

A few favorites:

Alamo Area Kids and Families Kick-off, Aug. 8-10: Celebrate the start of Kidcation Week at Travis Park where you’ll find bounce houses, clowns, dog-friendly diversions, pet adoptions, a health fair and live entertainment. If you haven’t seen Travis Park since it was revamped this spring, now’s your chance.

Movie By Moonlight, Aug. 12: They’ve already shown Frozen for the summer but the folks at Travis Park promise to screen an equally tantalizing animated flick to mark the end of summer. Grab a bite from an area food truck and settle in with the fam on a blanket or lawn chairs. It’s Downtown Tuesday, so parking is free.

Bat Loco Bash, Aug. 12: Around 50,000 Mexican Free-Tailed bats emerge at dusk from under the I-35 bridge on the River Walk at Camden and Newell streets. It’s a sight the kids (and adults) won’t soon forget and is accompanied by presentations from bat experts, live music, food trucks and plenty of child-friendly activities.

Art Crawl, Aug. 14: Each of San Antonio’s museums has deals going on throughout the week. You can’t go wrong with the San Antonio Museum of Art’s Art Crawl designed to educate mom and dad while stimulating the minds of their babes. After a 45-minute tour, take a break with playtime and snacks.

Ser Padres Day, Aug. 16: From 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the San Antonio Children’s Museum is opening its doors for free. On top of its regular exhibits and hands-on activities, they’ll have plenty of extras planned for families, including kid Zumba, face painting and more.

Hilton Palacio Del Rio Package, Aug. 8-17: If you haven’t taken a vacation yet, treat yourself to a staycation. The Hilton’s animal-themed package includes a two-night stay, tickets to the zoo for a family of four, a Barrel of Monkeys game to keep the little ones entertained, free breakfast and other goodies.
