Summer Reading Programs & Incentives

Here's a look at a few things to keep your child reading this summer:

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program: for kids in grades 1st – 6th is BACK!

Here Is How It Works:

1. Read any 8 books and record them in the Reading Journal
2. Bring the completed Reading Journal to your local B&N store.
3. Choose a FREE BOOK from our selection on the Reading Journal list at the store…


Chuck E Cheese Reading Reward Calendar: keep track on this calendar - take in and redeem for 10 free tokens.

Half Price Books:

Here's how it works - How kids 14-and-under can participate:

1) Read for at least 15 minutes each day for a month.
(Grown-ups may read aloud to kids who are still learning.)

2) Add up your minutes and have your parent or guardian initial each week.
3) Once you've read 300 minutes, turn in your completed reading log to earn your $5 HPB Bookworm Bucks reading reward for the month.

Local Public Library: Most of the Public Libraries offer Storytime.

Pottery Barn Summer Reading Challenge: May 15th - July 17th read 8 books from the PB recommended list by 7/31/2014 and receive a FREE BOOK.

Scholastic Summer Challenge: Kids create an online account and keep track of their reading minutes to earn prizes. As they complete weekly reading challenges on the site, they can spin the Prize Wheel to win digital prizes like book & audio chapters and virtual badges. There are also sweepstakes that kids can enter after logging minutes. Available May 5 - September 5.

Sylvan Book Adventure: offers a free reading incentive program where kids read books, take a comprehension quiz about how much they remember and earn points based on how well they did on the quiz. They can then redeem those points for prizes.
