Alamo Area Kids and Family magazine starts Kidcation Week (Aug. 8-17) with a free, three-day celebration in Travis Park, where families can enjoy storytelling, arts and crafts, food trucks and live entertainment.

Spanish Harlem Orchestra
This 13-member group, directed by Oscar Hernandez, includes vocalists and musicians who fuse their talents together to bring the sounds of the barrio to life. The orchestra has won two Grammy awards and is known for delivering high-energy performances full of traditional Latin beats. Presented by Arts San Antonio.Friday, 7:30 p.m., Aztec Theatre, 104 N. Fill Your Lungs With Fresh Air
In a "Matisse Paints the Town" partnership, Gemini Ink will bring four of Henri Matisse’s illustrated art books to life through a performance that uses spoken word and music to explore how Matisse was inspired by poetry and writing. Carlos Mencia
As one of 17 children, Mencia has plenty of joke material from his family alone. The comedian known for his former Comedy Central Show Mind of Mencia also includes references to current events and a few surprises in his stand-up routine. Mercada O'livia
The monthly open-air market at the Spanish Governor’s Palace returns this weekend with fresh fruit, vegetables and more, plus food demonstrations, dance and art performances and artisan craft booths. In support of the SA Urban Pet Market taking place up the street at Travis Park, dogs are welcome and watering stations and treats will be available.
