I know several of us bought these for our kiddos this Christmas before all the hype started escalating about fires, explosions and more - I bought two! I've spent alot of time researching to try and find out if there is a way you can tell if you purchased one.
Here's some helpful information:
• Only buy from trustworthy shops and outlets
• Look for the CE mark. By law, toy packaging must display this, as well as the name and address of the manufacturer/importer, the type, batch, warnings and instructions and model or serial number. If any of this is missing you could be looking at a fake toy.
• Look for the BSI Kite and Lion quality marks for extra peace of mind.
•Check for spelling mistakes on the box; this is a giveaway for counterfeits. They also often copy safety marks, so take a close look to be sure they are genuine.
NOTE: Another tip - When certain unmarked box is opened, the buyer finds a plug without a fuse and won’t fit into the socket properly; a board that is packed with batteries that can overheat and explode; and instructions that include: “Get off the bus, get off before you stop intelligent drifting scooter balance state, one foot down, the other one foot in the left drifting scooter again.” found on page 4 of your manual.
Most information I've researched has come from UK and of course several news articles of boards around the US that this has happened to...
Still seeking information on the one I purchased on Amazon, however the one that I purchased via Woot - responded and said they are not aware of any of the ones sold have caused fire and that they have only sold ones with Samsung or LG batteries - which makes me feel a little better! Enclosed is the one I received from Woot - which has the CE logo.
